2012: The year that has seen the beginning of the end for the mighty Swedish House Mafia; the long-awaited release of an Eric Prydz full-length studio album and the general consolidation of dance music in the mainstream scene draws to a close. However, the impact of this year in respects to the tracks it has produced will no doubt live on. Beyond Pryda, 2012 also saw albums from the likes of AN21 & Max Vangeli, Zedd, Dada Life and Cosmic Gate, while old-timers such as the newly reinstated best DJ in the world, Armin Van Buuren, continued to prove why they are still at the top of the game. A few young artists have continued to impress themselves as the next generation of superstar DJs, not least of which, the Swedish prodigy, Alesso, as well as Russian maestro Arty. Avicii pushed on from the success of his mega hit Levels to cement his spot in the EDM scene, best witnessed through his surpassing of Tiesto in DJ Mag’s top 100. On the festival scene, the likes of Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival, combined with the spectacle of Coachella, amongst many more gathered even more support than previous years, epitomising the rise of Dance music. For me personally, Dutch trance duo W&W were on a par with the likes of Alesso, Prydz and Avicii as my artists of the year.
