Much like fellow countrywoman Ellie Goulding, Florence (of Florence & The Machine fame) seems to have a voice that was simply designed to be remixed. With several high profile remixes, including a superb effort from the likes of Italian house veteran Benny Benassi, of her previous tune Shake It Out, remix duties for this single, Spectrum, go to two pioneering producers of their respective genres; moreso two of the outstanding British production talents. Calvin Harris has mastered a genre of his own, crossover electro pop, with the iconic We Found Love featuring Rihanna and Let’s Go alongside NeYo. It is particularly impressive to me that Harris has managed to achieve impressive mainstream success in the same vein as Frenchman David Guetta, but has been able to do so whilst retaining his artistic integrity, and winning near universal plaudits in stark contrast to the much maligned Guetta. The other superb remix of Spectrum comes frown the foundries of techno pixie Maya Jane Coles, an odd combination and one of the last names one would expect to read on a commercial remix package. However Coles shows her talent at diversifying her production skills with an impressive remix as well, that is different, yet no less acoustically pleasing than the Scotsman’s. Check these ones out now.
